Breast lift plastic surgery may be performed on women who are at least 18 years of age, and who seek perkier, elevated, and firmer looking breasts. If a woman is dissatisfied with the drooping breasts and the downward pointing nipples, she may benefit the most from breast lift surgery.

Standard Breast Lift

In many cases, the cosmetic surgeon may choose the standard breast lift technique. In this technique, the surgeon will create an anchor shaped incision, beginning with an incision around the areola and another vertical incision down to the breast crease. Sometimes a third horizontal incision along the breast crease may be placed.

Mild scarring is unavoidable with this standard breast lift technique, but the results in terms of reducing droopiness in the lower half of the breasts can be very good. Procedure

Breast lift surgery will be performed with the patient under general anesthesia or IV sedation. The procedure will begin with the surgeon making the incisions in discreet targeted areas. Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove the excess breast tissue and reshape the underlying tissue to produce more natural looking, youthful, and desirable breasts.

In case of areola reduction, the surgeon will trim away excess tissue from the circumference of the areola to reshape the area. The areola and the nipple may be relocated to a higher position on the breasts to make them look natural. After the surgery is over, the surgeon will pull back the skin smoothly and tightly over the breasts. The incisions will carefully closed with sutures.

Recovery

The patient will be required to wear a compression garment or surgical bra for a few weeks until the new shape of the breasts becomes firm. Most patients will go through a downtime of about one week, after which they may return to work or resume their normal activities. Heavy lifting of weights and aggressive activities should be avoided for at least a month.
